Sleep Tight and Don’t Let the Bed Bugs Bite
As much as we try to contain the problem, bed bugs are a reality we all have to deal with. This is especially evident in the resurgence of the pest in recent years in many places across the country. From major cities like New York, West like Los Angeles, and even right here in the Midwest – no one can predict where the next outbreak will take place. Fortunately, Midwest Exterminating knows precisely how to deal with the problem. We’ve put together a few quick tips for homeowners on how to deal with bed bugs.

Understanding What These Pests are All About

Bed bugs are parasitic insects that are essentially stowaways. These pests slip into homes and other establishments in many different ways. In most cases, though, bed bugs hide out in cracks and crevices of things like luggage, furniture, pillows, and various other objects. The common misconception is that the presence of these pests has something to do with the hygiene of a particular area; but this is not the case. Bed bugs feed on blood and can survive for months without feeding. Once established, bed bugs reproduce rapidly and can spread room to room, even in clean and vacant homes.

Early Detection

Because bed bugs seemingly pop up from out of nowhere, it’s always a good idea to check possible hiding places and detect the problem early on. Most homeowners think bed bugs hide exclusively in beds, but this cannot be further from the truth. These pests also often hide underneath chairs and couches, between cushions of upholstered furniture, behind electrical switch plates, and even in drawers and cabinets. Start inspecting possible hiding places at the first sign of bed bugs.

Vacuum Regularly and Launder Your Linens

Vacuuming is one of the best ways to remove bed bugs. It’s something you need to do regularly, with focus on creases, folds, and seams in your furniture, mattress, and the floor. Given that most populations occur in mattresses, it helps to launder your linens in hot water because bed bugs are extremely sensitive to hot temperatures.
